Karina Barillas, 41. Activist. Emigrated from Ciudad de Guatemala, Guatemala, when I was 24.

Something I love to do is to sing, dance, eat, and dream out loud about gender equity and love. My biggest dream is to be the best mother I can be for my children and to live in joy everyday. We are a feminist family with three cultures (Latina, Arabic, and North American) and 3 religions/spiritual beliefs (Christianity of the liberation theology, Islam, and Social Justice).

The hardest thing about being an immigrant mother is the feeling of being alone and without guidance, being torn between what I want to change about my culture of origin and refraining from adopting those things about my new culture that I find not useful nor healthy.
